Michael Greger, M.D. FACLM, is largely known for his achievements in lifestyle medicine, but years before he founded the science-based NutritionFacts.org, a public health charity offering a free online portal hosting more than 2,000 videos and articles on myriad health topics, and shifted his focus to the study of chronic illness, it was his infectious disease work that formed the bulk of his scientific publications and afforded him the opportunities to testify before Congress and present at the Conference on World Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, and the International Bird Flu Summit, among countless other symposia and institutions.
A graduate of Cornell University School of Agriculture and Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Greger is also a founding member and Fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and a New York Times Best-Selling author of titles including How Not to Die, The How Not to Die Cookbook, How Not to Diet, and How Not to Age. (All proceeds he receives from book sales and lectures are donated directly to charity.)
Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching is among Dr. Greger’s early works, but its focus and its message has not changed. How can we stop the emergence of zoonotic diseases and pandemic viruses in the first place? If there is one concept to draw from my work on preventing and reversing chronic disease, it’s that we must—whenever possible—treat the cause.
